WHAT IS THE DAN BYLSMA

CHARITABLE TRUST FUND?

Dan’s Charitable Trust Fund is a Donor Directed Trust incorporated within the Grand Haven (MI) Area Foundation.  The Grand Haven Area Foundation is a 501c-3 entity and contributions to it are deductible as charitable gifts under the Internal Revenue Code.

 HOW IS IT FUNDED?

The initial funding was provided by Dan himself.  Its ongoing funding is provided by subsequent gifts by Dan and his family, by fees and honorariums Dan receives from speaking engagements and public appearances, sales of coaching aids, a portion of the profits from the sales of Dan and Jay’s books, sales of hockey paraphernalia, as well as some of the proceeds of Dan’s hockey camps.

  WHO BENEFITS FROM

THE TRUST FUND?

The Trust Fund was funded by Dan to provide a means to assist children with the high cost of participating in youth sports, particularly ice hockey.  Deserving youth hockey programs also are able to benefit from the Foundation. Dan and Mary Beth also have a interest in other worth while charities, especially medical research into the mystery of still-born births.

  WHAT’S THE PROCEDURE FOR

 REQUESTING A GRANT?

Application must be made in writing indicating the specific need that is intended to be met,  the dollar amount being sought, and the benefit that will be generated by the grant.  Because of the limited initial size of the Trust Fund and Dan’s desire to only pay grants out of income, only grants of less than $250 will be considered for the present.  Send requests for grants to The Dan Bylsma Charitable Trust Fund, P.O. WHO DECIDES IF A REQUEST

WILL BE GRANTED?

A committee made up of Dan and Mary Beth Bylsma and members of their family review the requests for grants.  Decisions are made based on the completeness of the request, the merits of the request, the percent of the total cost Dan’s Trust Fund’s being asked to fund, the anticipated benefits, and the availability of funds.  Letters of acceptance or rejection will be sent within 30 days of the receipt of the request.

One of the way Dan raises Money....

  ... for his Trust Fund is by auctioning off his collection of hockey memorabilia, like autographed game sticks or jerseys.  We don’t use Ebay where undoubtedly we could get more money.  This is done on Dan’s site so that the prices don’t get outrageous and the stuff stays within Dan’s hockey family.

THE RULES

You must be at least 18 years old to bid.  The auctions will have a time limit.  The incremental bid is $10.00 unless other wise indicated. In case of duplicate bids, the first bid received will prevail.  Successful bidder pays shipping and handling. The successful bidder will be notified by email.  We can accept VISA or MC.  Please... no dealers.
